Standing up for what you feel is right takes courage. Of course, when you have an entire crowd behind you and your movement, it’s a heck of a lot easier to refuse to budge on your beliefs. But that didn’t stop one Staten Island woman from staying true to her values and letting her courage shine over the weekend.

Betty challenged onlookers at multiple points, saying, “Black lives matter right?” as she poured and smeared the paint over the original yellow mural. She also asserted that BLM is destroying Black people’s businesses by burning and looting them.
Bevelyn and her crew were arrested and charged with criminal mischief a short time afterward. But this didn’t stop her – she was back at it only hours later.
A second video titled “Harlem Drive-by Painting” shows Betty once again pouring paint over a BLM mural. This time, the brave woman and her crew operated out of the back of a van in an area located at 7th Avenue and West 125th Street.
A third video, released on Sunday, shows the crew yet again covering another BLM mural – this time, on Fulton Street in Brooklyn. Betty urges the people to stand by and refund the police. She also encourages onlookers to vote Republican in support of President Trump in the upcoming election.
Bevelyn’s crew was eventually approached by a small handful of angry onlookers; it isn’t clear whether they were just bystanders or BLM members. Their responses escalated until she and her crew finally departed at around 12:40 am.
It takes courage to stand up for what’s right and what you believe in. Spearheading it on your own without a mob behind you takes a much greater degree of fearlessness and tenacity… especially in today’s society.
