The media portrays the Capital Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ), also known as the Capitol Hill Occupied Protest (CHOP), in Seattle as peaceful. If you’ve watched the news, or don’t live under a rock, you’ll know CHAZ has seen quite a bit of violence. Even recent events have made it to mainstream media.

Over the weekend, there was a shooting that left a 19-year-old man dead within the zone. This, of course, had to be the work of an outside source. To a Seattle City Councilwoman, it’s just that.
With no evidence to back her claim, left-wing city council member, Kshama Sawant, pushed the blame on a “right-wing agitator.” She then added that President Trump and conservative media have painted CHAZ as chaotic, misrepresenting the zone.
KING-TV received a statement from CHOP organizers saying that gang affiliation may have played a part in the fatal shooting. Organizers on Sunday, June 21, tweeted a set of political changes to encourage CHOP to stop from being so chaotic.
Regardless of who is to blame for the violence in the autonomous zone, one this is certain: it will be politicized. Nothing seems to be immune to being twisted to serve a political agenda these days. From COVID to George Floyd, everything is being used to push a narrative. The truth seems to be of little consequence as the push toward the November elections draws ever near.
