On Monday, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (Democrat & nephew of Nancy Pelosi) used Independence Day to suggest Floridians move to California in an attempt to advertise the blue Golden State as the place of “freedom.”
We the people are confused how Newsom claims that California is the place of freedom since it was one of the first states to institute mandates & restrictions and the last to remove them. Don’t forget that while California was still masked up and under restrictions, Ron DeSantis had reopened Florida and removed masking & vaccine mandates, allowing children to go back to school mask free.
“It’s Independence Day. So let’s talk about what’s going on in America,” Newsom said before addressing Floridians, claiming that “freedom is under attack” in the Sunshine State.
“They’re banning books, making it harder to vote, restricting speech in classrooms, even criminalizing women and doctors,” he claimed.
“I urge all of you living in Florida to join the fight or join us in California, but we still believe in freedom: Freedom of speech, freedom to choose, freedom from hate, and the freedom to love.”
“Don’t let them take your freedom,” he added.
We’re about to celebrate Independence Day — but Freedom is under attack by Republican leaders in states like Florida.
Banning books.
Restricting speech.
Making it harder to vote.
Criminalizing women and doctors.

DeSantis recently tackled woke ideology in schools, signing legislation earlier this year to ban Critical Race Theory (CRT) in schools.
“We believe in education, not indoctrination,” DeSantis said at the time, making it clear that they are “not going to allow teach[ing] that a person simply by virtue of his or her race, color, national origin or sex, is inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive.”
And on July 1, Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill went into law, which bars classroom discussions on sexual orientation and gender identity for children in kindergarten through third grade.
Florida law now officially prohibits injecting sexuality and gender ideology into elementary school curriculum.

So, as Newsom suggests that Florida’s policies are not popular, it seems the numbers are showing different. Florida has seen the biggest numbers of domestic visitation ever in the state’s history.
I’m unsure what Newsom’s narrative is going after Floridians, urging them to move. But I can assure you that it’s not because California is a freedom state. I know, because I live here!
