A neighborhood in the northwest region of Baltimore shook Monday as an explosion leveled several homes — leaving an unknown number of people buried under rubble. Officials reported that seven people were injured and taken to the hospital and another woman was pronounced dead. As firefighters continued their search Monday afternoon, they stayed optimistic, stating their mission was still to rescue citizens, rather than recover them.
The cause of the catastrophic event was determined to be a gas explosion. Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) stated they would be turning off the gas in the surrounding homes, to ensure the area is safe. BGE added they would be investigating the explosion, including the inspection of gas mains, service piping, and customer appliances.
Governor Larry Hogan tweeted his support for those affected, adding his appreciation of the first responders, and that he is grateful.
Once again we see that disaster can strike anywhere, even at home. This is yet another example of why the survival mindset is so crucial in this day and age, you never know what is lurking on the horizon.
