Have you ever heard the term “Loose lips sink ships?” Information is one of the most dangerous weapons in the world, so it’s important that we limit what we put out — intentionally or otherwise.
City Prepping is giving us a brief introduction to Operations Security (OPSEC) here, and how we can apply the concept to prepping.
At its core, OPSEC is learning how to keep sensitive information out of the wrong hands. Not everyone needs to know you have a gun, or a large supply of food for example.
For us survivalists, the idea is to not tip anyone off who shouldn’t know about our preps. If your neighbors saw you bringing 50-pound bags of rice into your house, they are going to know you have supplies. Sure, they may not have cared much about it right then, but with shortages popping up thanks to COVID-19, they might now.
OPSEC is similar to the grey man concept, which is the act of blending in and not drawing attention to yourself. Some things are simply better to be left secret. You don’t want unexpected guests to invite themselves to dinner, or worse.
