(UnitedVoice.com) – Former President Donald Trump is on trial in New York City for financial crimes. At the beginning of the trial, his attorneys asked the judge to allow him to attend his son’s graduation. Now, the judge has issued a decision regarding that request.

On April 30, Judge Juan Merchan told the former president’s attorneys he could attend his son’s graduation ceremony in Florida later this month. The judge explained that the trial was on schedule, so it wouldn’t be “a problem” for Trump, who could “certainly attend that date.”

Barron Trump, 18, is the youngest of the former president’s children and the only one he shares with his wife, Melania Trump. The former first couple has tried their best to keep him out of the prying eyes of the press as he’s grown up. The teenager will graduate from Oxbridge Academy in Palm Beach, Florida, on May 17.

In the weeks before Merchan’s ruling, Trump complained multiple times that the judge would cause him to miss Barron’s graduation. That’s because Merchan previously said he didn’t know if the former president would be allowed to attend, saying it depended on whether the trial was on track.

The prosecution is currently presenting its case to the jury in the Manhattan trial. Trump is accused of committing 34 felonies for allegedly covering up repayments to his former attorney, Michael Cohen, after the lawyer paid a former adult film star, Stormy Daniels, $130,000 to stay quiet about an alleged affair.

The jury has heard from David Pecker, the publisher of The National Enquirer. He detailed how he allegedly paid for damaging stories about Trump to help him win the 2016 presidential election. Trump’s former assistant, Rhona Graff, also took the stand and testified he had contact information for the women the former president was accused of having affairs with.

Several other witnesses have also taken the stand, but prosecutors have not called on Cohen or Daniels.
