When SHTF hygiene is probably going to be one of the biggest issues a person can have besides food. Food can be grown, and there are ways to keep clean. Many people don’t consider dental hygiene or how easy it is to take care of their teeth and breath with baking soda.
Melinda Murphy will explain more:
Finding a spare toothbrush in the wild won’t be easy to do — so pack a few in your bug-out bag. Toothpaste can be carried too, but baking soda comes in handy for more than one use.
I’m sure most people know how to brush their teeth, so I’ll leave that part out. When using baking soda you really don’t need a lot of water. So, if you don’t have any, you’re fine. Saliva in your mouth will be plenty. Simply pour about a teaspoon of baking soda in your hand, dampen your toothbrush in your mouth and then dip it into the baking soda and brush your teeth as usual.
If you’re without a toothbrush, dampen a clean washcloth, or any small cloth, do as instructed above and rub teeth and gums clean. You’ll find that not only are your teeth clean and whiter, but your breath will be fresh as well.
