Are These Items in Your Bug-Out Bag?

If you’ve done the least bit of research into prepping and survivalism, chances are high that you’ve read about bug out bags at some point. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of guides out there explaining why every person needs to have a bug out bag at the ready. There are just as many lists explaining what items should be stashed away in these grab-and-go survival kits.

Unfortunately, these tend to leave out a few essential items that could be vital in a life or death situation. In the following video, Newbie Prepping shows one such item:

As the video above explains, one often overlooked item that should make its way into all bug out bags is a knife sharpener. Yes, a knife can be sharpened using a flat stone, but this can also damage the blade if you don’t know what you’re doing.

While many people forget to add a knife sharpener to their emergency bag, it isn’t the only often overlooked item that gets left behind. Here’s a list of other important items that tend to be forgotten:

  • Maps
  • Compass
  • Anti-diarrhea medicines
  • Fiber pills
  • Extra set of prescription glasses
  • Insoles
  • Garbage bags
  • Shemagh tactical scarf
  • Tampons
  • Vaseline

Many people won’t even consider these items until SHTF and they are somewhere without them. Keep in mind when packing your bug-out bag to pack items that are lightweight and can be used in more than one way, like coffee filters. It’s always better to be safe and overprepared than sorry and underprepared.
